Spring Trails

With some decent rain at the end of March and into April, the land has turned green and the trails need mowing. On the back parcel, behind the pond, a nesting pair of hawks soar above us and cry out as we cross under their nest. Señor pays them no attention and keeps chasing squirrels. California poppies open under the sun. As we enter the tree cover on the Upper Battle Creek Trail, a great horned owl swoops low across the trail and settles in a nearby tree. This may be the best time of year at the Ranch. — KLM
